HUDSON STAGE zoom performance of a very short one-act by JOSHUA ALLEN (TV’s EMPIRE, upcoming NETFLIX: FROM SCRATCH and HBO’s In Treatment) addressing this moment in time. “Working from Nick Payne’s eloquent, articulate script, director Mark Shanahan crafts a poetic, wholly satisfying, emotionally exciting evening of theater. His “Constellations” is alive with humanity and spirit and buzzes with a flavorful, pungent theatricality that complements the playwright’s cosmic dance of courtship, conflict, fate, death and uncertainty most engagingly.” James V. Ruocco, TAKE 2

“ A virtually flawless production.” John McCarthy, ONSTAGE

“The cast is exceptional. Ben Paul Williams was delightful and disarming with his initial aw-shucks charm, which matured and metamorphosed into a richly complex characterization of the beekeeper. Faith Sandberg brought a depth to Marianne beyond what the playwright put on the page.” Broadway World

“Hudson Stage Company has a winner on its hands! Peggy J. Scott is utterly captivating as Highsmith. Her delivery of Highsmith’s bitingly sardonic ruminations is pitch perfect. Edward is the quintessential Highsmith character (no spoilers here) and Daniel Petzold does a beguiling job of slowly peeling back the onion, allowing Edward’s multiple layers to emerge, each time slightly, almost imperceptibly, more self-assured with subtlety and grace. Director Dan Foster deftly weaves the tantalizing plot through its’ many twists and turns with just the right pace, effectively gaining steam as the play progresses. The marvelous sets by James Fenton are practically a third character in the story, revealing great insights into the author’s world and mindset.”
Peter Danish, BROADWAY WORLD

“Stunning. Switzerland is a fascinating two-character piece whose New York premiere has wisely been entrusted to Hudson Stage Company. In every respect—not least the terrific performances by Peggy Scott and Daniel Petzold—HSC’s production is high-caliber.” John McCarthy, ONSTAGE

Shining City is tautly directed by HSC co-founder Dan Foster. A salient feature of McPherson’s plays is how frequently they showcase the art of storytelling, the great oral tradition of one individual standing up in a pub or parlor, for example, and spinning a yarn that captivates listeners. When a piece of theatre is dominated by this kind of storytelling it follows that the talents of the performer delivering the oratory are paramount to the work’s success. And skillful acting isn’t enough. For the stories to ring true on any level, the storyteller must project authenticity and believability with relatively little help from other actors or extraneous stagecraft. Fortunately, Hudson Stage Company’s production is anchored by Derry Woodhouse in the role of John, a guilt-wracked widower haunted by the ghost of his recently departed wife. Credit costume designer Charlotte Palmer-Lane for sending him out in just the right garb, including a perfectly drab jumper. The other design work is also top-notch and faithful to McPherson’s vision.” John McCarthy ONSTAGE
